CASE STUDY · LIVE CLIENT WORK
Krystal's Art Shop
An online art shop that leads with the piece, then asks what you want it printed on.
The brief
Krystal draws in ink and watercolour and sells her work printed on paper, ceramic and canvas. An off-the-shelf shop would have listed the same drawing once per product and buried the art in a grid of merchandise. She needed a storefront that leads with the piece, then asks what you want it printed on.
What it does
-
01The art gets the top of the page
The homepage leads with a single piece at full size rather than a wall of products. The full collection sits below it, 26 pieces in all, each shown either as the drawing itself or on the item it is printed on.
-
02One card per piece, not per product
A drawing sold as a print, a mug, a notebook and a tote is one card, showing its lowest price and everything it comes on. Shoppers who do want a particular object can filter the whole shop down to it, from mugs to desk mats to sweatshirts.
-
03Choose the piece, then choose what it lives on
Every artwork page carries each product it is printed on and each size available, up to 14 of them for a print, with the price updating as you choose. The art comes first and the merchandise second, which is how people actually shop for art.
-
04A cart that keeps its contents
The cart survives a filter change, a reload, and a visit later in the week, and two open tabs stay in step with each other. Nothing is lost between browsing and paying.
-
Shopify checkout 05Payment handled by Shopify
Checkout hands the shopper straight to Shopify's own payment pages with the cart carried across intact, so card details never touch this site and there is no payment data here to secure. Shoppers pay the way they already do, with Shop Pay, PayPal, Google Pay, Venmo or a card.
-
06Built for the phone first
Most people who find an artist are on a phone. The gallery, the size chooser and the cart are all built to work at that width, not squeezed down from a desktop layout after the fact.
The result
The shop is live at krystalsartshop.com, serving Krystal's real catalog straight from Shopify and taking orders through Shopify's own checkout. Pages load fast because there is no page builder or framework in the way.
